How I work

I work individually with older adolescents (age 15 years and over) and adults who present with a range of difficulties. Whilst some clients present with existing diagnoses, others present with a sense of deep unrest, feelings of being stuck, pervasive emptiness, distressing childhood experiences, relationship difficulties, and/or a wish to better understand themselves. Depending on the nature of a client's presenting problems, therapy may be short-term or long-term.

My practice is influenced by relational theories and frameworks. I believe that we are inherently relational beings, whose fundamental need is to be understood by others and received with warmth, curiosity, and empathy. My practice is informed by current research (i.e. evidence-based practice), client preferences and characteristics, and my clinical experience and understanding of your presenting difficulties. I draw on the psychodynamic theories of self psychology and object relations, attachment theory, and also incorporate key teachings and concepts from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and mentalisation based therapy (MBT).

What I can help with

  • Understanding unhelpful patterns, destructive ways of being, and core conflicts

  • Understanding the role of past experiences in shaping the present

Please note. There are some kinds of pain that I cannot tend to because I do not have the wisdom or training required. I do not specialise in the treatment of eating disorders. I also do not specialise in the assessment of ASD or ADHD, nor do I offer specialist intervention for these ways of being.
